Fred Koenig has more than 30 years experience in the area of municipal finance, both as a consultant and as a senior finance official in the public sector. He is highly regarded by municipalities for his long-range financial planning expertise. Fred has conducted numerous studies examining the long-range financial impacts of various municipal services as well as growth management strategies for the full range of municipal services.

Prior to the January 1994 merger with Hemson, Fred was a principal in the firm of Marshall, Koenig & Associates Inc., where he specialized in development charges and long-range financial planning, and in providing financial analysis and policy advice to Ontario municipalities. He also served as Director of Financial Management for the City of Mississauga. Prior to his service with Mississauga, he was manager of the municipal finance practice of the management consulting firm of Currie, Coopers and Lybrand Ltd.

Fred received his Bachelor of Arts in Economic Geography from the University of Michigan and his Masters in Economic Geography from the State University of New York where he also undertook Ph.D. studies. He is a member of the Municipal Finance Officers’ Association of Ontario. Fred and his family call the Riverdale community of Toronto home. In his spare time he enjoys golf, carpentry and gardening.
